Replace the surface.
Lift out individual cushion cassettes for access, cleaning and revision. The contact surface can evolve without replacing the entire chair.
P1 · personal furniture
An upright chair, a deep recline, a near-flat retreat. One supported cradle, with natural-latex comfort and a massage system built around you.
Furniture concept · stationary prototype planned
Lounge pose · proportioned support deck, illustrative pivots
Comfort, from the inside out
Natural latex gives the support layer its resilience. Wool batting and washable wool or cotton covers make the surface a replaceable part of the design.
Lift out individual cushion cassettes for access, cleaning and revision. The contact surface can evolve without replacing the entire chair.
Support air, compression air and ventilation use three separate circuits. Cushion shape, body compression and cooling are deliberately controlled separately.
A four-segment deck sits inside an approximately 30 in-wide, 7 ft shell. Mechanical locks carry the occupied load after positioning.
A more deliberate massage
A lower gantry positions the massage heads while a separate upper plane moves the cushions. Each head controls its own contact force.
The diagram illustrates the two mechanical planes. Heads retract before changes of slit, gantry position or chair pose. Final pivots, force limits and fit remain design work.

Design source: 10-xy-back-layout-and-unit-costs.mdOne shared Y gantry, two independent X slides and two force-controlled pneumatic Z heads. Repeat-build target $850–1,300 is a target, not a supplier quote.
Design source: 10-xy-back-layout-and-unit-costs.mdOne shared vertical carriage keeps the two heads at the same height.
Design source: 10-xy-back-layout-and-unit-costs.mdTwo required; each head can travel laterally on its own.
Design source: 10-xy-back-layout-and-unit-costs.mdTwo required; each head has its own force-controlled contact axis.
Design source: 10-xy-back-layout-and-unit-costs.mdShell, base, full pose system, cushions, integration and assembly still need a complete BOM.

The useful details
It is a design-stage stationary furniture prototype. Geometry, force limits and component choices still need qualification; no treatment or crash-restraint rating is claimed.
They share one Y height. Each head has its own X travel and force-controlled Z contact. The cushion-positioning rails are a separate mechanism above the massage gantry.
Mechanical locks carry the occupied load. Actuators move the mechanism into position; controls retract both massage heads before pose changes.
The $2,300–6,500 historical range is for a complete back module, not a finished chair or retail price. The smaller mechanism and axis ranges are nested within it.
